To explore the essence of light in a philosophical and conceptual way, I produced a collection of images in the maternity ward of Kingston hospital where women give birth.
Focusing on the concept of the passage of the baby from dark to light, I took pictures of the equipment to celebrate and linger on the beauty of the beginning of a new life.
I pictured the anatomy of the space, using the camera to examine every detail, enabling the viewer to enter in the room and be part of the event happening in that place. In this way time is stopped and the repetitiveness of the clinical ‘industrial’ rooms is wiped out.
Indefinite shapes and shades enfold the images with mystery leaving the viewer with uncertainties and intrigue.
